Podshow into censorship - They talk the talk……
Podshow are meant to be one of the companies bringing new media to the masses. They are meant to be one of the companies getting involved in the conversation, in the social media. Adam Curry (co-founder and host of the Daily Source Code) talks up feed back saying he wants to hear from people both good and bad about what they are doing, but with big sponsorships, do they really want the criticism?I have been listening to there recent drama series, Shadow Falls.
They have hyped this up over their entire network to the level where they have exercised their contract rights over their Podcasters to create little commercials saying how much they like the show. They have been playing these at the start of every (well lots on the network). Adam hypes it at every chance. But does the show meet the hype?
Well its a good start but no. I had my opinions and I thought I would use the Podshow Plus site (that Adam talks about all the time) to leave my feelings about the show in the provided review module. The review was accepted and it appeared on the site (see image below)
Well to my surprise I went back a few days later and my review was gone! See below.
I would love to say that this was to my surprise but unfortunately this is what I expected from Podshow. I actually left two reviews and both were removed (I copied the comment this time as I thought it was more then a bug or accident). So what are Podshow up too? They are meant to get it. They are meant to be new and innovative and opening the conversation between the Podcasters and their Audiences but it seems that they only want to do that if the Audience says what they want them to say.
Perhaps they can add that to the terms and conditions that the listeners sign much like the crap they have in the Podcasters agreement. So what do you think about this? Leave a comment and tell me what you think (don’t forget that you can leave an Audio comment in the comments section) and if you don’t agree with me, I won’t delete it. And just for interest sake, here is the review I left on the show:
Subject: JG - Just Goings
The show is well produced and the story is sort of there but (just to me) the show jumps around to much and is just hard to follow. Plus, with such a big lay off between episodes (2 weeks plus) I really lost track of what was happening in the show.
This, in addition to the jumping around and there being little flow to the story (i.e. Molly (the narrator) throws us from scene to scene in the space of a minute and not letting us get a feel for whats going on). Perhaps you should give a slight recap of what has happened so far. Just another minute or so at the start of the show (not much when you consider you play the full theme at the end of the show).
While mentioning the Theme, it definitely is the highlight of the show (IMHO). Looking forward to see if it improves in the third episode as this definitely is in interesting format.

Added on August 22nd, 2006 at 6:22 pmAs far as I know, the podcaster (or the show owner) has the total control over whcih review they want to keep and which review they want to remove. The podcaster can even make any of the review as the “featured review”, which will be shown on the show profile page instead of being barried inside hundreds of reviews on a different page if a show gets really popular.
This is just like any of MySpace member will have the control to remove any inappropriate comments they don’t want to keep, and are you going to blame MySpace is into censorship as well? Please remember, company like MySpace or PodShow is only “providing the platform“, which people like you or me can share information or any format of media with other people in the same time to communicate with each other.
The decicion of keeping or removing certain content is totally up to the page owner (or the podcaster in this case) instead of the company providing the platform. However, can any one from PodShow also registered as a podcaster on PodShow site? I don’t see why not. In this case, I don’t think the podcaster can represent as PodShow. He/she is just the person who prduces the show like any other podcaster out there who uses podshow to distribute podcasts. Just my 2 cents.
