Breaking News: Fan that Clashed with Laidley commits Suicide
Just heard that the Spectator that clashed with Kangaroos coach yesterday at the Telstra Dome has thrown himself in front of a train. No reports on news sites on the web that I can find but being reported on the Radio currently. Apparently the family has meet with the Kangaroos and don’t blame Dean for the incident.
This is a sad event and puts into perspective the pain of players that are reported out for a time (include a slew of them reported today).
I don’t think Dean Laidley should feel bad about this. He had every right to do what he did but I feel for the guys family and for Dean and the Kangaroos as well. I will discuss the issue on this weeks AFL Podcast over at http://afl.mollyzine.com.
This comes in just after it was announced that Dean had nothing to answer for in the incident:
No fine for AFL coach over fan clash:
Kangaroos coach Dean Laidley has escaped punishment from the AFL after he twice clashed verbally with a supporter at Telstra Dome.
Laidley twice had words with the Kangaroos fan as he walked through the crowd to address his players, and at the end of Sunday’s game invited the man to come down to see how badly his team was hurting after it lost to St Kilda.
AFL officials discussed Laidley’s actions at a meeting to review the round, but despite how unsavory the incident looked on national television they decided not to take the matter any further.
Would be interesting to know what would have happened if the decision came a bit later.
