In for a Penny, In for a podcast! Different Advertising model
My mate from Canada, Jon Watson, former host of the GNU Linux Show on TPN, Linux Blogger and now Co-host of JAK Attack (with his Fiance, Kelly) has come up with a very interesting idea to make some money off of his podcast.
The 1-Penny Podcast Project - Jon Watson’s Tales from the Motherboard:
How’s it work? Simple - you send us $5 and three lines of text. We’ll speak those three lines during the show somewhere and you’re guaranteed that show will be downloaded at least 500 times in the first 30 days. The three lines of text are preferably:
- Business/Blog/Site/Whatever name
- Your all important one sentence!
- Your URL
The basic idea is that you pay $5 and they guarntee you 500 downloads. If the show doesn’t make 500 figure, you get your money back. You get the a link on the site and its not just the normal 15 sec spot that is running on podcasts (like mine). They are going to drop the lines in throughout the podcast. I am sure that especially if you are the first to sign on, you will get extra mentions.
I am interested to see how this model works. If they make $5 a podcast, although not huge money, it would be great start (none of my single podcasts have actually made that much). I use Fruitcast (contact them if you would like to advertise on my shows) for my advertising and they have a special for 4 cents a download (of which the podcaster gets half). This is something that I think Joseph Jaffe should look at as he is into Podvertising and marketing and I think that this is very original way of doing it.
Good luck with this Jon and Kelly, I will be listening.
