From Middle to Main - Progress buys Neon Systems to add to Data Direct
Progress Software (the company I work for) announced that they bought Neon Systems for 68 million cash (the company has a lot of cash) and is planning on integrating it with DataDirect. It looks like an interesting purchase for two reasons:
1) The company currently running as at a loss, something that Progress has a track record of turning these results around. Case in point, Exerlon was a recent purchase that was looked at more for the XML resources to add to Sonic Software but the gem in the rough was Object Store Object Oriented Database that Progress re-invigerated it and created the Realtime division
2) The cyinergy with Data Direct seems to be obvious but also with the web services for Mainframes, I would believe that there would be some benefit for Sonic as well. Apart from all this, it will get the Progress name into some big accounts that might not have heard of the Progress before.
