Curry calls me out on Daily Source Code. Heres my response
Adam Curry mentions me and my nasty post. Hmmm… was it that nasty? Maybe it was. Lots people came to look and no one really shot me down, what does that say?
Adams had his say on the issue on the Daily Source code(DSC)! Now my turn on my blog, www.mollyzine.com!
Firstly, I have nothing against the Podsafe Music Network (PMN) in fact I think its a great idea. I also have nothing against Adam publizing the PMN on Daily Source code or Podshow stuff on DSC. Its a smart business move from a smart business man (and Adam, I don’t under estimate you by thinking that your a blonde radio type (sorry, couldn’t find the actual quote Adam used))and a good company.
You mention that there is no monetizing of PMN. But there are ads and you do get money from that. As you mentioned on the show, Podsafe own it and are getting lots and lots of advertising out of it (further value derived). You have mentioned before that you plan to offer a store on the site that I am sure you will take a cut of sales and this is before we even think about the unlabel. So even if you aren’t making a dollar out of this today, I am sure its only a matter of time until you do.
Again I have no problem with this exept that you are not transparent on your show and you sell the show as a virtual guide for getting into Podcasting. If you want to be the guide, let your listeners know that you are sending them places that you benefit from them visiting (whether that be in the form of Money or Attention (I am sure you have talked to your good buddy, Steve Gilmore, about Attention). You also mentioned that your sponsoring the PreExpo event with the Podsafe music and that this is further out going money. I would be suprised if you don’t mention Podshow or PMN and/or have signs up there. So please call this what it is, sponsorship or advertising. An expense yes, but one with benefits.
I should say I was incouraged by what I have listened to in show 276. I thought you where going over board with all the podshow stuff and content but really loved all the Promos you played (especially my fellow Aussies, the Cool Shite boys).
Please take this on board Adam as I think your show is generally very good.
Molly

mmmm, well I know who I don’t trust!
You seem to have doubled back on yourself here - I really have no idea what you’re trying to say. Are you saying that you don’t like curry making money from the PMN? Well if you don’t like people using a free medium that you have the choice to ‘tune-in’ to then you much have your work cutout trying to vlog about EVERY artest, DJ, radio startion, etc etc etc.
Please, deal with it.

Adam has not made it a secret that he started a business, that he got $8 million in Venture Capital to grow it. That is the entire point. If you don’t like it…don’t listen.

Added on November 14th, 2005 at 10:01 amHi guys,
Thanks for the comments.
Simon, The reason that the comments are moderated is to stop spam. On my blogs that I have had (coming up to a year) I have never not published a comment because I don’t agree with it, only if it is spam. I think you will find lots of people are doing this. If Adam isn’t getting spam, good luck to him. Also have a look at Adams comments on podfinder.podshow.com (well you could if he allowed any).
Jack, No one said anything about not publising your business on the podcast. I just think that when he does, he should let people know about it. Thats my opinion. Also I have questioned his PMN only policy’s motive and the history leading up to it.
I believe that he purposely played non-podsafe music to get in trouble so as to use that as an excuse (and marketing tool against the record industry) to go podsafe with out losing his regular listeners that may have tuned out if he went PMN only just to support his business.
