Hunt then trailed off as play continued before commenting that the night sky was “…as black as a dog, oh, I stuffed it up, I’ll have a rest, I knew it was going to happen.”

From this alone you could be forgive for thinking that Rex was really being raciest but a full listen to the Audio (and I had the chance this morning to hear it) showed that Rex was going at a million miles an hour and was just trying to throw out his normal comment (the article makes it sound like the comment was only used earlier on the night, in fact Rex uses it often), Its as Black as a dogs guts. He normally uses this comment to refer to rain clouds or mud or the amount of light. From my listening he was trying use this and the nickname of Leon Davis, Neon (as in neon lights) and just got his mouth moving to quick.

Once he realized what he was saying he stopped and took a break. To me Rex does some silly things but you can’t fault his attitude in this manner. He rang around to find Davis’s number and tried 5 times to call him to apologies. He also (as stated in the article) that he would wear anything that came his way from this. How many people do that these days.
